Fully ensconced in my family’s summer cottage on the coast of Maine, and catching up on my mother’s back issues of Vogue and Vanity Fair, I’m feeling envious of the lifestyles of the old monied socialites chronicled in these magazines. Yet I know, if I were born into that world, I’d have a raging eating disorder and terrible self-esteem issues. As opposed to the middle-class eating disorder and quotidian self-esteem issues I have now.
love is great and it can move mountains and all that stuff, but here’s something i don’t get: a couple that showers together every day. instances where it’s ok to shower together: you’re both running late, or you’re living in a drought. and maybe if it’s a spontaneous intimate moment. but every day? take that time for yourselves, you guys. separately.
